16 Dabbies entered the Mossel bay EP champs, On Friday 3 races were sailed in good conditions, On saterday only one race was sailed as winds were very light & shifty, up to 5 knots . On Sunday the wind was strong gusting up to 23 knots, 4 races were sailed back to back.
Congrats to Jonathan Kukard for winning, Tim Manley 2nd, Kevin Foreman 3rd, Jason Gray 4th, Jeremy Foreman 5th, Jacques Louw, 6th Vicky Stock was the first girl with an overall place 7th
Great to see Callum Kilpin win his first race on a Dabbie, it shows a wooden Dabbie with Dacron sails can still feature, well done.
Jeremy broke his rudder pintals & sailed back without a rudder to fetch a spare (thanks to Dave Manley & Laura Spratley for helping), Callum & Jason also had rudder problems, Stu Coleman’s main block came loose & he completed the race without the block. Tiran Long’s Dabbie got a hole on the hull during launching & he raced with a duct tape patch but had to withdraw due to water getting in.
We had two 2up Dabbie teams, Eamonn & Connor Jooste, & Robyn Spratley & Maggie Kruger, Dabbies have been sailed 2 up for years – there is a 2 up Trophy which Chelsea Banks & Bianca Louw won last year at nationals. We encourage other lighter younger Dabbie sailors to come to regattas, have fun & get good sailing experience with a friend.
For several local Cape sailors this was their first off shore regatta on Dabbies. They learned a lot & did well & showed great tenacity, Tiran Long, Danford Jooste, Stuart Coleman, Jacques Louw, Jayan Smart, Matt Broekhuizen, Luke Sher, Maggie Kruger
On Saterday night Dave Manley, hosted a braai for the Dabbie Family, Many thanks to Dave & Jill Manley, Once again the Dabbie kids socialized bonded & chilled. Fantastic to see how competitive the Dabbies are on the water & great friends on land – great class spirit.
On Saterday when the wind was light & we were waiting for the wind to increase a lot of the Dabbie & Oppie sailor’s swopped boats & lots of fun was had. Tim Manley swopped with Sonja Stock, great vibe all round – hopefully some of these Oppie sailors will sail Dabbies when they age out of Oppies.
