National Rankings updated

I have updated the Rankings on the page on the right. It is a pity that the KZN Dabbie Provincials seems to have collapsed. We need to try and build some representation there again.

Eastern Cape Trophies – Missing ?

At the recent Eastern Cape Provincials we discovered that we only had a first girl trophy.

Can anyone recall if there were ever any others and even better where are they ? None were presented in 2007 either.

Rob Foreman took possession of the first girl trophy which was not awarded (no girls – is not good)

Please contact me or Rob foreman if you have any info

Eastern Cape Provincials

Mossel bay proved to have great facilities and the Club really went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. Bridge Officer Ronnie Baer really tried to get as many races in as he could, but the wind gods refused to play ball.

Saturday saw winds around 12 to 17 knots. Vaalie Gareth Baxter got off to a good start with 2 firsts and a second . Hot on his heels were James stock and Leo Davies both sporting their brand new Mylar sails.Tim Manley, jonathan Kukard and James Mc wha were always in the hunt and ready to capitilise on any mistakes.

Sunday despite desperate attempts, no races were completed as the wind died off completely. monday dawned looking promising and Ronnie Baer took the fleet out early. Unfortunately only one race was completed, the rest abandoned due to lack of wind. Leo Davies dominated this race after choosing to go left after the start pulling out a great lead to win the race convincingly. James and Gareth came in 3rd & 4th respectively.

The gold went to Gareth Baxter and in 2nd was James followed by Leo. There were eleven boats with few new faces who I am sure learnt a lot and will improve as time goes on.

Northvaal Provincials

The regatta was held at Aeolians on the 20 and 21st September. 10 Dabchicks made the starting line in very heavy conditions.(for the Vaal). The wind stregnth was around 18 knots gusting to 28 at times whipping up the chop on the Vaal Dam. Added to this was the cold front coming through which had brought snow to many regions in the country. The first day saw Gareth Baxter taking the lead and keeping it for the whole regatta winning every race. He was at times challenged by James Mc Wha and Tim Gibbons. Alexander Ham who is new to the class this season sailed with determination despite numerous capsizes.

The conditions continued on sunday with many boats not taking to the water due to the conditions or breakages. A huge fire was kept going in the clubhouse around which many tired cold and wet sailors and familes gathered to keep warm All in all a good regatta and it was good to have a “heavy regatta” on the Vaal again. The many new sailors to our ranks I think learnt a lot for the more experienced guys, not to mention enjoying the  comaraderie.
