Dabchicks at the ZVYC Optimist training camp

This last weekend four Matric Dabchick sailors sailed with Optimist sailors for a morning at ZVYC’s training camp to allow them the chance to try out Dabchick sailing.

Relatively light winds meant that all could sail one up (no capsizes either) while their Optimists were looked after (sailed) by Dabbie sailors who had forgotten just how small an Oppie is…

The feedback from this was great and hopefully the same can happen again soon to give more a chance to realise just how great Dabchicks are.

Dave Manley - new Dabchick measurer

Following approval from SAS’s Sailing Management Standing Committee, Dave Manley has been listed as an accredited Dabchick measurer. Naturally measurers play an important part in the class and we wish him well and thank him for taking up the position.

National Rankings updated

I have updated the Rankings on the page on the right. It is a pity that the KZN Dabbie Provincials seems to have collapsed. We need to try and build some representation there again.

Western Cape Vogelvlei Points Regatta

Cape Rep. Rob Foreman has reported that 7 boats took part in the points regatta (an improvement from previous years - making Dabchicks one of the bigger classes at the event). Light winds prevailed meaning that the two mylar sails present were difficult to compare to the other dacron sails.

After four races the results were:

  1. James Stock ( ZYC)
  2. Jon Kukard ( IYC)
  3. Jason Grey ( MAC)
  4. Kevin Foreman (IYC)
  5. Jacques Louw (MAC)
  6. Jeremy Foreman (IYC)
  7. Marc Andrew Wilson (IYC)

Rob also writes “We were all very impressed with Jacques Louw & Jason from MAC. The competition at the Junior Nationals at December is heating up.”

Eastern Cape Trophies - Missing ?

At the recent Eastern Cape Provincials we discovered that we only had a first girl trophy.

Can anyone recall if there were ever any others and even better where are they ? None were presented in 2007 either.

Rob Foreman took possession of the first girl trophy which was not awarded (no girls - is not good)

Please contact me or Rob foreman if you have any info
