Dabchicks in Australia updated
I received the following Mail from Mark Dingley in Australia.I have sent him some more pictures and I hope to send a set of 2nd sails soon.
Cor was kind enough to e-mail me a copy of a set of plans originally drawn in 1956 which I have started transferring the information into CAD format which I can then transfer to our Computer operated overhead router giving me precise accuracy with all the components. Once this is done I will make a couple for our yacht club as it has a great little sailing school and will be a great springboard into the Australian market…well heres hoping. More than that I keep looking for pictures for design ideas, rigging etc.
As far as up to date technology is concerned I will be drawing on your expertise. I understand there are fibreglass boats in production in SA. Are there any other advances in the class….remembering it was over 20 years ago I was racing Dabchicks.
Thank you
Mark Dingley
PS: If you have an old set of Sails I would pay to have them shipped out here. I have a couple of close friends in the sail making industry, I could get to create a pattern for AUS 001

Hi Folks
I am also interested in building a Dabchick in Australia. I have a young son and am a member of Fremantle Sailing Club. Could you please put me in touch with Mark Dingley. I would be able to assist him in the CAD conversion. I used to sail a Dabchick in Kimberley at the DeBeers Yach Club many years ago
Cheers Simon

Hi Simon
Send me a mail at zeekoei(at)iafrica.com as my wife will be in Perth at the end of November and could bring a set of tracings of the frames we use to build our boats. If you need info sooner then it could be posted.

to see dabchicks in australia i would travel to anywhere just to see the launching. i used to sail them at Zeekoei Vlei until disaster struck and put her out of action a few months before we moved, and i have never stopped longing for another. so i will keep an eye on here to see what happens

Owen,
FYI your email adress chairman@dabchick.za.net does not work.
Is it possible to download Dabchick Plans from the web? – if no, how can I get a set.
