Baxter/Gibbons triumph – NVL Junior Dinner
Prior to the Dinner the Annual Interclub Team racing event was staged at VLC. The race Teams were made up of 3 boats (sprogs) and different colour sails were used to indicate teams. The event is worked out on a round Robin basis with boat changes on the water between races. Two Jury boats were on the water and many a transgression resulted in penalties being awarded by Judges. Last years winners, VLC conceded defeat to a strong Team from Pretoria. 5 Dabchick Skippers represented their respective clubs.
Gareth Baxter and Tim Gibbons shared first place in the NVL Grand Prix series for 2006/2007.In third place was Ryan Hadley followed by his brother, Warren in 4th. The sailor with the best result in first season was James MC Wha.Gareth Baxter won a mainsail and Warren Hadley a jib in the annual lucky draw.
The annual Junior Dinner, is usually a Dabbie Oppie affair , held at VLC. For the first time this year, the Cats attended and presented awards to their deserving sailors.An interesting presentation was delivered by Mike Sadler (father of Mark) on the Americas Cup. The Mirrors also presented a show of their worlds held in Port Elizabeth.
As usual the food was great and plentiful. The evening was enjoyed by all those who attended.
