Nationals 2007

Most of you must be writing exams at the moment and I trust that all is going well.

Just a reminder that nationals is just over a month away. A few things to remember :

  • Get your entry fee in early to avoid penalties, see the TSC web page
  • Book your camping , see the TSC web page
  • what are you going to eat ?
  • Is your boat measured ?
  • Where is the certicate ?
  • Fix any breakages
  • Start getting your gear together avoid the rush
  • Is the wetsuit booties and life jacket still in good shape.
  • If you have trophies - get them back
  • Go to Gymn
  • Remind everyone on face book and Mixit
  • Is your trailer licenced ?

Write these points on your fridge with a whiteboard marker, not an indelible koki,so that you will remember.

World Cup final - Go bokke

saru_boksupportersclublogo_20070222.jpg

I wonder how much sailing is going to happen on saturday. I would imagine that most yacht Clubs will have their premises crowded with Yachties glued to the TV sets.

All I can say is that lets give the boys our support as I believe that we can bring the trophy back home where it belongs.

Boskop Open GP 3 - Gibbons again

For those of you that dont know Boskop Yacht Club, if you ever get a chance to sail there make the effort. The water is clean, the surroundings great and the hospitality excellent. The Dam and club is located between Carletonville and Potchefstroom and is an easy drive from JHB. We camped under some shady trees and were made to feel very comfy.

The Dabchick turnout was not good as many could not make it for various reasons. Tim Gibbons, as he did last year, placed his stamp on this event. he was challenged by Gareth Baxter , who  managed to win a race. However the best Gareth could do was keep up to Tim for most the regatta.Warren keeps on showing improvement and at times tangled with the front runners. James only managed to get there on Sunday, but seemed to be going well.

The winds on Saturday were light but came through nicely on Sunday morning. Overnight we experienced  a huge thunderstorm which took out the electricity and our intentions of watching England take out France in the RWC. Anyway, we were rewarded by the Bokke on Sunday.

KZN Youth Provincials - Jessica Triumphs

Only 6 Dabbies lined up at the start. For what its worth the Dabchicks were not the only class that did not make class for provincial medals. We really need to understand why youth numbers are down in general.

The Dabchicks completed 5 races on the Saturday with a wind strength that produced some good sailing. There were a few huge switches, but this is what sailing is about. Jessica and Gareth continued their tussle from the previous weekend at the Vaal swopping positions on numerous occasions during the races. Added to the dice up front was Tim Gibbons who sailed extremley well and made life  for the leaders very difficult. Some interesting duels developed between the Hadley brothers and Julian Wertheim aymes, which made for some good racing all round.

During the night rain and mist settled in. On the Sunday morning we awoke to mist and drizzle with no wind in sight. Taking advice from the locals the regatta was ended at 10h30. Thanks to Ian Hogg and HMYC for making our stay pleasant and confortable.

Jessica Hogg eventually triumphed with Gareth in 2nd and Tim G in 3rd.

I did not manage to get on the water and as result I do have many sailing pictures. I have posted a few pictures taken on the shore.
